How to Play It on Paper
One per Row and Column
On the map, no two people can share a row or a column, just like in sudoku. And nobody can be on a square taken up by furniture: those squares are shaded and out of play.
Each Card Says Where They Were
Every suspect signs a card saying where they were: in an area, next to an object, in a row, or with someone else. What they say is true, except in cases with a liar, which are flagged at the top. “Next to” means on the neighboring square and in the same area: a wall between two squares keeps them apart, even though they touch.
Alone with the Thief
Place everyone, the thief included. When the map is full, look at the thief's area: whoever is in there with the thief makes the catch and is the hero. There's always one, and only one.
Pencil and Eraser
Pencil in the letters and cross out whatever is no longer possible.
